On Feb 29, signups open for sutcliff_swap , an exchange fest that I've been co-modding for a number of years now. Rosemary Sutcliff was a British author who wrote mainly young adult historical fiction. Many of her books are set in Roman Britain, although there is an occasional medieval setting and some set farther back. Although technically "young adult," I think they are tremendously engaging for adults as well. And they are rich canon for the fic writer or fan artist. Almost every book has a slashable pairing, there is tons of loyalty kink, and many intriguing side characters to explore. Although most of the novels have a male MC, there are strong female characters to be found as well. 

The books are pretty quick reads, and you only need to request/offer one for the fest. Two of my personal favorites are Outcast (h/c galore!!!) and The Eagle of the Ninth (slavery, loyalty, wolf cubs!). Both of these and others of her works are available on Kindle, so you'd have time to read it before the fest.
