Guardian playlist
Mar. 4th, 2019 06:31 pmNot technically a playlist but rather a list of songs with links and some key lyrics. An eclectic mix, ranging from the 1830s to the 21st century, which I fear betrays my background as a historian. Links go to youtube.
Pining Shen Wei in the years between waking up from his Hallows-induced coma and meeting Zhao Yunlan again:
Memories by Within Temptation
All of my memories keep you near.
In silent moments imagine you here....
Together in all these memories
I see your smile.
All the memories I hold dear.
Darling, you know I will love you
'til the end of time.
And this one:
Days Go By, by Dirty Vegas
Days go by, and still I think of you
A light-hearted number that reminds me of exasperated Shen Wei, trying to get Zhao Yunlan to take better care of his health:
Button Up Your Overcoat, by Ruth Etting (1929)
Button up your overcoat
When the wind is free
Take good care of yourself
You belong to me
While this one puts me in mind of triumphant Zhao Yunlan, bouncing around in his jeep after Shen Wei has agreed to be a consultant for the SID:
Because My Baby Don't Mean Maybe Now, by Ruth Etting (1928)
I feel so oh, so happy,
Since someone answered yes.
This song reminds me of Shen Wei watching Zhao Yunlan sleep with that longing look on his face and all the things he hasn't told him:
Kathleen Mavourneen (1830s)
O hast thou forgotten how soon must we sever?
O hast thou forgotten this day, we must part?
It may be for years, and it may be forever,
Then why art thou silent, thou voice of my heart?
And this line I also particularly like: "Arise in thy beauty, the star of my night."
A general Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan relationship song:
Time in a Bottle, by Jim Croce
If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with...
And a last one for Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan's relationship in general that hits all the angsty, dramatic notes:
Wild is the Wind, by Nina Simone
Love me, love me, say you do
Let me fly away with you
For my love is like the wind
And wild is the wind
Give me more than one caress
Satisfy this hungriness
Let the wind blow through your heart
For wild is the wind...
